Interview
Mistress Bibianne: Mistress Kim Rub, thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. You’re an iconic figure in the BDSM community, and I’m fascinated by your journey. Your beginnings in BDSM, as far as I know, were in 1988. How did you discover your kinks? Can you tell me a bit about your background and how you became involved in the world of BDSM?
Mistress Kim Rub: Lots of people’s kinks started in childhood however that’s not the way it started for me. I lived in San Francisco for year and then left. A couple of years later I returned to see my friend. We went south of market (SOMA) on a night out. We saw two transvestites going into a bar and I said, “let’s follow them”. Once inside we made friends. A year later, Mistress Kay called me. She was the first dominatrix and transsexual I had ever met! In 1987 there was no such word Trans! The fact that she dressed full time and lived to life as a woman, is indeed, what she was. She came to London and called me to invite me to a “little S&M club”. I had no idea where I was going, I felt a little apprehensive but I needn’t have, because the first time I went to fetish club it was a sheer and utter delight. It was the start of the rest of my life.
Mistress Bibianne: Your dedication to the BDSM community and admirable career as an entrepreneur is truly fascinating. You opened your first fetish club in 1994, and your second, Club RUB, in 1996. What were they like? What did you learn? If you had to open them today, what would you change?

Extraordinary times, like you were in some kind of secret society. At that time you really didn’t tell people where you were going, or what you were into. There was a lack of knowledge about the subject matter.
So the phrase Cloak and Dagger springs to mind. No parading around the streets, like a peacock! Clubs and events were beyond exciting. There were no cameras and mobile phones had not been invented.
It’s very uninhibiting knowing that no body is recording the naughtiness, the exhibitionism, the playfulness, which is why it’s all very different today. You ask if I opened a club today what would I change? Nothing, in fact I would take it back to how it used to be, with no prying electronic eyes, other than your own.
A very strict dress code! I’m an old-school fetishist, so fetish clothing is everything. Which is probably why I started Rubber Cult…latex only event.
Mistress Bibianne: You started in BDSM in 1988, but it wasn’t until 2017 that you became a professional Dominatrix. What motivated you to take the plunge? Why did it take so long?
Mistress Kim Rub: During this time I’d played BDSM games off and on various different people at clubs, house parties and events. Really I was a full time. club promoter, and this took A lot of effort . Even though it was a once a month event! Back then you had to find an image, find a printer to print up the image into a flyer, distribute them…it was all very labour intensive. The main emphasis was going to other clubs, and personally handing people flyers, so I was out every single weekend, and very often during the week also. The Rubber Nipple Club was my first club, and it ran for two years. Then seamlessly I moved sideways with Club Rub and that club ran for 20 years, closing on its 20th anniversary. During the 22 years, there were 264 consecutive monthly events, and I never missed a single month. Fetish club promoter was my profession.
It seemed a natural progression that once I’d finished as a regular monthly club promoter, that I would become a dominatrix. After all I’d been teaching my mistressworkshop.com six years at this stage (14 years now).
Best thing I ever did becoming a dominatrix, especially after putting to time and knowledge in! Natural evolution ⭐️
Mistress Bibianne: In 2018 Bishopsgate Institute Library Archive included in their collections the history of your fetish club: Club RUB. Tell us, what did it mean to you?

The first fetish scene contributor to be added to their Fetish Archive Collection, which is the first of its kind in the world.
My history will be there forever… I am history! So much of our lives are gone and forgotten, so this is truly an extraordinary experience for me. Recently I was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the UK Fetish Awards.
Another accolade that means so much to me. When you have been around so long, and put so much into the scene…you really appreciate the acknowledgements.
Incidentally, if you want to see the collection, you walk into the Institute, in to the library and ask to see the Club Rub archive. No cost or membership needed.
Mistress Bibianne: On the same year, you founded the Queen’s Bee Society Drinks, which I attended recently. What inspired you to create these gatherings, and what do you hope attendees take away from them?
Mistress Kim Rub: Most of the UK dommes don’t get to meet each other unless they go to fetish events or munches. No brothels either in this country so ladies work in isolation. I thought it would be a great idea to bring ladies together for a little bit more of a glamorous night out to enjoy a cocktail and network. I’m not a munch kind of person, so something at the other end of the spectrum was more my style. Plus the fact, once a promoter, always a promoter!
Mistress Bibianne: Aside from the British scene, what other BDSM scenes do you know? Which one has caught your attention the most?
Mistress Kim Rub: You ask great questions! I’ve travelled a fair bit. However, not extensively. Fetish clubs in New York City, San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale in the US. Fetish clubs in Amsterdam Paris, Berlin, rural France, Cork, Edinburgh and Dublin. Plus up and down the UK. I always have a great time when I go out, it’s my number one mission in life! However, I think the parties in Fort Lauderdale are pretty special as Glenn and Donna have been operating their shop and events for over 25 years. They really do an amazing job of the Fetish Factory Memorial Day Weekend – it’s extraordinary…as the sun shines every day, a novelty for us Brits!
Mistress Bibianne: Apart from being a professional Dominatrix, events promoter and host, your mentorships and workshops birthed icons. What’s the first lesson you teach a rising Dominatrix?

There’s nothing wrong with striving to be the best, there’s nothing wrong with playing up your game but you have to get there in your own good time. Merely copying somebody, isn’t you making your way. It’s imitation which in my opinion is not the sincerest form of flattery. The finest wines take an age develop. Learn, grow and find your uniqueness.
As I reflect on my evening at the Queen’s Bee society drinks, I’m reminded of the importance of community, education, and self-expression. Mistress Kim Rub is a shining example of elegance, sophistication, and expertise, and I feel honored to have had the opportunity to meet her.
If you’re interested in exploring the world of BDSM and fetishism, I highly recommend attending one of Mistress Kim Rub’s events – you won’t be disappointed!
